What Is DevEx and How Does It Work?

In short

The Developer Exchange (DevEx) is the only official way to convert Robux into real money. It pays $0.0035 per Robux — so 100,000 Robux becomes $350 — with a minimum cash-out of 30,000 Robux. It is open only to approved creators who hold an active Premium membership.

The restriction that catches people out is which Robux qualify. Only Robux earned from experiences and items you made can be exchanged; Robux you purchased cannot, at any amount. The rate is also deliberately far below the buying price: Robux cost about $0.0125 each to buy and cash out at $0.0035, roughly a quarter of that. DevEx is a payout channel for creators earning on the platform, not a way to turn purchased Robux back into money, and it is not something a player without published work can use.

DevEx is the Developer Exchange, the only official way to turn Robux into real money, and it pays $0.0035 per Robux — a rate Roblox publishes itself and can change. Roblox sells Robux at roughly $0.0125 each and buys them back at that figure. Understanding the gap between those two numbers explains almost everything about how the Roblox economy behaves.

What it actually pays

RobuxDevEx payoutCost to buy the same
30,000 R$$105$375
50,000 R$$175$625
100,000 R$$350$1,250
500,000 R$$1,750$6,250

DevEx rates are set by Roblox and can change. The buy column is the standard web package rate, shown for comparison — it is not a rate you can exchange at.

The third column is the point. The same Robux are worth roughly three and a half times more going in than coming out, and no amount of shopping around changes that: Roblox is on both sides of the trade, and the spread is the business model. Both halves are published — the buy prices and the DevEx rate — so the gap is not a secret, just rarely put side by side.

Who actually qualifies

This is where most explanations stop too early. Clearing the 30,000 Robux threshold is only one of four conditions Roblox sets:

  • An approved DevEx account. You apply, and Roblox verifies you.
  • An active Roblox Premium membership.
  • Age and verification requirements set by Roblox, including a verified email and being old enough to hold the account that receives the money.
  • Earned Robux only. The one people miss. DevEx applies to Robux you made from experiences, gamepasses and items you created. Robux you bought, were gifted, or received in a trade do not qualify at any balance.

So a player holding 100,000 purchased Robux cannot exchange a single one of them. The $350 figure is real, but it belongs to creators, not to holders. The same arithmetic at the top end — what 1 million Robux is actually worth — is where the gap stops looking abstract.

Why this matters even if you will never use it

Because it is the fact that makes every Robux scam impossible to sustain. If Robux could be freely converted to cash, a working Robux generator would be a money printer and would have been shut down within a week of existing. They cannot be, which is why every “generator” is a data-harvesting page instead — the mechanics are worth reading once.

It also explains why nobody will buy your Robux for real money at a fair price. Anyone offering to is either about to scam you or is moving Robux out of a compromised account. Trading Robux for cash outside the platform breaks the Roblox Terms of Use either way.

Getting to the threshold

30,000 Robux is a serious amount to earn from creating — 25,000 Robux sits just under it, and 50,000 comfortably clears it. Building an experience and monetising it with gamepasses is the free entry point — Roblox keeps 30% of each sale and you keep 70%, per its published fee schedule; how to get Robux without buying them compares that route with the others.

For any figure, the Robux calculator shows both the buy cost and the DevEx value side by side.

Frequently asked questions

The Developer Exchange is Roblox’s official programme for converting earned Robux into real money. Approved creators cash out at a fixed rate, currently $0.0035 per Robux.
How much is 100,000 Robux in DevEx?
$350. That is the figure DevEx is usually quoted in, because the maths is clean at that amount.
What is the DevEx minimum?
30,000 Robux, which is $105 at the standard rate. You also need an approved DevEx account and an active Premium membership.
Can I cash out Robux I bought?
